The movie 'Mao's Last Dancer' is a true story and a romance movie. It was opened to public in 2009.
The main character is Li Cunxin. He was a Chinese boy who lived with his parents and six other brothers. His family was very poor. One day, Li gets selected as a special student to go to Beijing and learn ballet. He then practiced ballet in Beijing arts academy. His strength, however, was too weak to catch up other students. He practiced harder than anyone staying up late at night to practice.

Then, a teacher, Teacher Chang, told him a story about a frog which was in a well. I think that this story means that I have to try hard to experience many things. Before the frog was able to jump over the well, it didn't have any ideas about what is outside the well. However, after the frog tried to jump over the well, the frog could experience much more things because it was able to find a new world. I will also try my best to experience more things. So, when he went to Beijing, he thought about his family and practice hardly. When he went to Huston, Texas, he met Liz. He was supposed to go back China because of the Chinese government. However, he marries with Liz and is not forced to go back to China. Sadly, Liz and Li had to divorce because Liz wanted to dance. After Li dancing with Mary, who is also a member of Li's company, his parents visited Huston to watch Li dance.

Li and Mary gets married later on, and the Chinese government gives them permission to visit China. Li returns to China and with Mary. The movie ends by Li meeting Teacher Chang and dances with Mary in front of the neighbors.

When Li decided to not to go to China but to stay in USA, I thought 'why does he do that?' So, I have thought about the pros and cons about Li's decision. Good things would be that Li could keep his career and doesn't need to worry about his dreams. He can keep his job as a male ballet dancer, and he can continue his love. However, bad things also do exist. He cannot see his family, and he cannot visit his homeland as well as family. He still can have his job when he goes to China because Chinese admit that he is an excellent dancer. He would still be popular when he goes to China, and he can meet another woman he likes. I think that Li should have decided to go to China because he should see his family. He couldn't see his family since he was very young, and I think it was a bad choice that Li made to stay in America.
There was a character named Teacher Chang in this movie. He was the one who told Li about the frog in a well and a bow. The story of a bow goes like this. One person couldn't pull the string on the bow even though it was really light and easy to pull on it. Then the teacher gave that person the most tough bow in the world, and he was able to shoot the arrow out from the bow. I like Teacher Chang because he gave Li hopes that Li can also succeed. I also had a teacher named Mrs. Newnam, and she gave me advice that changed my life. I used to not read books, however, after she told me how her life had became better after reading books, I decided to read more books.
Something that I don't like about Li ,from this movie, is that he used Liz. Liz went through many governmental problems with Li. However, Li asked for too much to her. To do all the housework for Liz made her not being able to dance, and Li and Liz divorced. I feel bad for Liz because she really wanted Li.

ReplyDeletet was a good movie review. I liked your thought about the part you didn't like about this movie. But I think that paragraph is not appropriate to conclude the movie review. It would be better, if you write another paragraph as conclusion of your movie review. Except that I enjoyed reading your movie review. Nicely done. And stop doing facebook! Haha
